Social Design on Bamboo Bike Sustainable Thinks and Things

Social Design on Bamboo Bike: Sustainable Thinks and Things is a three-day-event by Spedagi Japan inc. and open house inc, in cooperation with Japan Institute of Design Promotion (JDP), aiming to share about sustainable lifestyle in Japan and Indonesia. This event was held in Tokyo Midtown Design HUB on August 3rd-5th, 2018 and consisted of seminar, workshop and exhibition. It was attended by various backgrounds and nationality of people; designers, researchers, academics, governments, artists, business sectors, students, both from Japan and Indonesia, and also from all over the world. This was also known as pre-event of The Third International Conference on Village Revitalization (ICVR#3), an international biennale conference on village revitalization which was initiated by Spedagi in 2014.

Exhibition

Exhibition opens everyday following the opening hours of the Tokyo Midtown Tower. The exhibition showcased 8 Spedagi bikes. Spedagi bikes are handmade bikes which use natural materials for its frame, such as Indonesian Bamboo and Japanese Take.
There were panels showing the Milestones of Sustainable Design, the activities done by Spedagi in Indonesia and Japan, also an interactive panel to let the visitors come and drop their comments about the two countries. There was also a series of picture roll about The 2025 Sustainable Life in Japan, produced by the International Conference of Design for Sustainability (ICDS), an annual international conference about design and sustainability started in 2006.
There were also an exhibition corner of Magno, a wooden radio and stationeries brand from Indonesia. Magno was the craftsmanship root of Spedagi. The exhibition also showed some small bamboo traditional toys from Java, Indonesia.

Opening Party

In the evening of August 3rd, the opening party started by a registration, in which participants wrote their names on handmade name tags made from Japanese Take. The party was opened by the Chair of the event, Fumikazu Masuda. There was also an introduction of Spedagi Japan members and Spedagi members from Indonesia. Ichwan Joesoef, the Chair of Indonesian Trade and Promotion Center Osaka (ITPC Osaka) were also present to give a speech. The event was ended by a dinner party of Indonesian foods served by Cabe Meguro, an Indonesian food restaurant in Japan.
