Singgih Susilo Kartono often calls himself a villager-designer (Desa-iner). Because he returned to live and work in his birth village, Kandangan, Temanggung. He believes that villages are the future of the world. This is shown from his works that raise the concept of a simple, sustainable life, and are based on local wisdom. He also initiated a village revitalization movement to strengthen village independence through developing a creative economy.
